In 2022, I had the incredible opportunity to design and create a poolside dimensional wall sculpture for a luxury residence in Las Vegas, NV. This project was a unique blend of art and engineering, requiring meticulous planning and execution to ensure both aesthetic appeal and durability in the challenging outdoor environment of Las Vegas. Here’s a closer look at the creation and impact of this stunning installation.
The Vision
The client sought a piece that would not only enhance the pool area but also serve as a captivating focal point for residents and guests. The goal was to create a sculpture that seamlessly integrated with the sleek, modern architecture of the residence while adding depth and visual interest to the space. I aimed to design an artwork that embodied elegance and sophistication, with a dynamic interplay of shapes and textures.
The Creative Process
The creative process began with detailed sketches and 3D models to visualize the final piece. The sculpture was designed to feature layered aluminum elements, cut precisely using waterjet technology. This technique allowed for intricate detailing and ensured the robustness needed to withstand the extreme outdoor conditions of Las Vegas, from scorching hot summers to freezing winters.
To enhance the visual impact, I incorporated dimmable LED backlighting, which provided a stunning effect, especially during evening and nighttime gatherings. The LED lights not only highlighted the dimensional aspects of the sculpture but also added a warm, inviting glow to the pool area.
The surface of the sculpture was finished with a faux teak wood paint, chosen for its aesthetic appeal and its ability to blend harmoniously with the surrounding environment. This finish added a natural element to the modern design, creating a perfect balance between contemporary and organic aesthetics.
Execution and Challenges
The installation of the sculpture presented several challenges, primarily due to the harsh weather conditions in Las Vegas.
